They are Italian amulets of ancient origin  worn to protect against the evil eye, in Italian cornuto, corno, or cornicello.  Corno means "horn" and cornicello means "little horn" -- these names refer to a long, gently twisted horn-shaped amulet. These have a gold plated bail on the top. They are solid black with very little grain visible in the horn and have been polished to a shiny finish.
