Lovely antique yellow glass French Cross beads in a rare smaller oval shape. The base is a very even yellow color, with applied cross design in brick red, white, navy and green stripes. French Cross Beads are African trade beads with a history dating back to the late 19th century in Africa. French cross beads were made in Venice and commonly used for trading purposes in Africa during the late 1800s and the early 1900s. Today, French cross beads can be found in many expensive private collections around the world. The size will vary slightly from 12-14mm long and 7-8mm wide in the center, they have 2mm holes.
Due to their age these beads have dirt, small chips, and pits that are normal for their journey and extensive use.
