An extra long handcrafted bone skull bead Mala necklace from Tibet. The japa mala or simply mala is commonly used in Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism for counting recitations when performing japa. The necklace is used to direct and count the recitation of mantras during meditation. This necklace consists of hand carved bone beads that look like skulls. The beads are strung in a circle to represent the cyclic nature of life. They are also called 'worry beads' because counting and reciting verses while holding them calms people down. These came from the estate of bead collector.
