African Cobalt Blue Striped Powder Glass Beads 16mm

These are old sandcast or powder glass beads in the Akoso style. They were handmade in Ghana from pulverized glass. The round beads are a deep blue with red, yellow and green stripes. The glass colors are poured into a clay mold to create the beads. These are lovely colorful beads and will add a wonderful ethnic look to your jewelry. The Ghananians have been making beads in this manner since the 1600s. They are strung on traditional raffia and come from the estate of a bead collector.
