Red Glass Snake African Trade Beads

Antique interlocking red snake glass beads. Snake beads are vintage African trade beads originally created in former Czechoslovakia and exported to West Africa. The zig zag shape of these beads looks similar to snake vertebrae. While real snake vertebrae beads have been traded in Africa for centuries, glass alternatives such as these appeared later in the 20th century. The beads on this beautiful strand are a deep orange red and measure 6mm in diameter. They are still shiny and are strung on traditional raffia. These are really beautiful and perfectly matched antique beads!
